[TRANS] 150122 JYJ’s First Japanese Single ‘Wake Me Tonight’ Tops Major Charts

JYJ is dominating various album charts in Japan.

On the 22nd, C-JeS Entertainment stated, “JYJ’s first Japanese single ‘Wake me tonight’ was released on the 21st and was met with an explosive response. It ranked 2nd place on the Oricon daily charts, and topped Tower Records’ daily charts and HMV’s 24-hour charts, proving that the group still enjoys immense popularity in Japan.”

The representative continued to add, “Unlike other singers, JYJ faced difficulty in the distribution process, so they had to release the song through their concert first. Although it took two months for the single to be released, it’s been getting an amazing response.”

This is the first time that JYJ have officially released a single in Japan, and despite the various hurdles they faced in the distribution process, they have been met with an explosive response. Their Korean album ‘JUST US’, which was released in the summer of 2014, topped Tower Records’ monthly charts and came in at second place on Oricon’s weekly charts, despite never being officially released in Japan.

JYJ also performed for a total of 240,000 fans during their April, 2013 Tokyo Dome concert and their recent Dome Tour, which took them to Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka.

A Japanese music representative said, “JYJ’s first Japanese single has been met with an explosive response from fans and local media. The group was able to dominate on various album charts, despite not having any large-scale promotional activities, proving just how influential they still are in Japan.”
