’10th anniversary’ Time filled with faith in each other…
TVXQ have showcased their ‘splendor’ as idol singers who are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. But they have stayed humble. The 10,000 audience members at their concert were unable to take their eyes off the two members for the whole event.
TVXQ held their 10th anniversary concert at the Ilsan KINTEX on the 26th of December with the theme of ‘Time Slip’. For approximately two and a half hours, TVXQ performed a total of 25 songs for 10,000 fans.
The day’s concert was meaningful to everyone as it was the day of TVXQ’s 10th anniversary. TVXQ gave all the credit to their fans. From a rendition of ‘Hug’, their debut song, to U-Know Yunho’s composition called ‘Santa Revolution’, TVXQ repaid their fans’ love with a variety of performances.
After opening the concert with ‘Maximum’ and ‘I Dont’ Know’, U-Know Yunho greeted everyone by saying, “It feels like yesterday that we were wearing uniforms and singing, but here we are now. It’s great to see you all.” Max Changmin smiled and said, “It feels like we’re holding a birthday party for a 10-year-old kid with our fans. I’ve been feeling great since this morning.”
◆From ‘Hug’ to carols… The kings of performances
As expected from idols with ten years of experience under their belts, TVXQ showcased perfect dance skills and live vocals. They captivated the eyes and ears of their fans with renditions of ‘Here I Stand’, ‘Dream’, ‘My Little Princess’, ‘I Believe’, ‘Balloons’, ‘Keep Your Head Down’, ‘Rising Sun’, ‘Catch Me’, ‘Unforgettable’, ‘Always There’, ‘How Are You’ and ‘Magic Castle’. Their performances, the lights and stage directions all melded together to create an amazing concert.
To celebrate the Christmas season, TVXQ performed a parade of carols. Wearing red outfits, TVXQ performed ‘Jesus’, ‘Silent Night Holy Night’ and ‘Sleigh Ride’. They also performed ‘Ocean’ and ‘Somebody to Love’ for their Japanese fans.
The highlights of the concert were the individual performances by each member. U-Know Yunho performed ‘Santa Revolution’, a song he had composed himself. The song’s cute choreography and energetic lyrics shone through. Meanwhile, Max Changmin performed Norazo’s ‘Wild Horse’, which was chosen as the most ‘shocking’ performance of the night. His outfit, which transformed him into a half-human, half-horse, drew the attention of everyone present. As much as it was shocking, it was a fun and exciting performance for his fans.
The perfection of the concert was completed by the fans. Fans pushed around giant balloons during ‘Balloons’, joining in with TVXQ’s performance. Constantly waving their lightsticks, the fans played a key role in keeping the atmosphere energetic and lively.
◆Going to e-mart to buy presents… The kings of love for fans
U-Know Yunho called his fans ‘princesses’ and treated them like ‘princesses’. He introduced ‘My Little Princess’ by saying, “A song we dedicate to our princesses,” and prepared bags of gifts for his fans. Throwing things like neck cushions, blankets and slippers into the audience, U-Know Yunho said, “They’re Christmas presents!” TVXQ ran around the stage for all the fans sitting in the back, and surprised them by appearing in the second-floor seating area for their encore.
To their fans, Max Changmin said, “I’m sure that you all became fans at different points in our activities. But I believe that you aren’t just fans, but part of our family, because you’ve shared so much time and so many memories with us.” U-Know Yunho didn’t forget to call their fans, “The third member of TVXQ.”
They also performed ‘We’ll Always Be By Your Side’, a track from their new album, for their fans. U-Know Yunho stated, “The composer of this song wrote it thinking of you all.”
U-Know Yunho went on to say, “I think our fans once brought placards to a concert that said, ‘We’ll always be by your side’. Our composer was touched by that and wrote the song for us. It’s a fun and exciting song.” Max Changmin added, “We’re always grateful to our fans, who make us ‘amazing’.”
◆Despite a slump… The kings of musicality
TVXQ emphasized a ‘unique musicality’ in their upcoming album. U-Know Yunho said, “In our upcoming album, we tried hard to try out new genres that we’ve never done before,” and “We decided on a big band concept. There are a lot of bright, energetic songs.” The title song of their new album is ‘Something’, and features an energetic swing rhythm.
TVXQ experienced the pain of splitting into two groups in 2009. Their pain was overcome by their ‘musicality’. During the concert, the two members described those times in a video montage and said, “We began to rely on each other much more after we became a two-member group,” and “It became an opportunity for us to get to know each other better.”
Max Changmin said, “Just when we thought we were invincible, we faced our first slump,” while U-Know Yunho said, “I drank a lot and talked about it with my friends. You might call me foolish, but all I wanted to do was sing better songs.”
The day’s performance was an opportunity to showcase their ‘enhanced’ musicality and greater ‘star quality’, heightening the anticipation for what’s to come in the next 10 years. TVXQ will be holding another concert on the 27th.
TVXQ will be releasing their seventh full-length album ‘TENSE’ on the 6th of January. This will be their first album in close to a year and a half since the release of ‘Catch Me’ last September. They will be kicking off their promotional activities on KBS2’s ‘Music Bank’ on the 3rd of January, MBC’s ‘Show! Music Core’ on the 4th and SBS’ ‘Inkigayo’ on the 5th.
