JYJ (Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu) have made the claim that the cosmetic company enterprise they pursued made up only a fraction of their problems with their former agency.
In their recently released interview magazine ‘The JYJ’, JYJ talked of all the things they have kept locked in their hearts for the past 1000 days.
Kim Jaejoong explained the situation at the time by stating, “It’s true that we decided to pursue the (cosmetic company) enterprise. We discussed this with our company, but they forbade us to, saying ‘Legal issues will come up,’ and ‘It will restrict your CF opportunities.’ It felt like they were treating us like children. Nevertheless, we told them we wouldn’t do it.”
The members claimed that the difference in opinion regarding the cosmetic company was the beginning of their dispute, but the crux of the matter was elsewhere.
Kim Junsu said, “Even we could figure out how much we should be earning by the number of CFs we shot and the sales count of our albums. But our income didn’t change that much compared to what it had been before.” They also talked about the issues surrounding the length of their contracts. Kim Jaejoong said, “If we were to fulfill all 13 years of our contract, even excluding the years we would spend completing our military service duties, we’d be over 35 years old. We were physically and mentally drained during our activities, so much that our wish was to sleep at least two hours every day. They say that in order to gain something, you have to lose something else. But what choice can you make when you can do nothing but lose everything?”
Park Yoochun revealed the reason why they decided to part with their former agency as he added, “We told the company of what we’d like to see changed in their system, but in reality, nothing much changed. We believed that we couldn’t be with them any longer, even if it meant that we couldn’t be active as singers anymore.”
Meanwhile, the first edition of ‘The JYJ’, which was released simultaneously in Korea and Japan, contains records of the past 1000 days since JYJ’s debut. It also contains chronological records of the worldwide album, word tours, individual activities, musicals and dramas that JYJ have participated in since their debut.

I know this has been discussed like thousands of times but whenever they bring up the issue of leaving SM always the same question appears in my head… “What about Yunho and Changmin?”
From their point of view even though the things were hard they were also normal. Almost all of the idols in the music industry suffers from the same thing, endless schedules, limited freedom… If you want to survive in the music industry and become really popular all the time that is the price to pay. When JYJ left SM they also meant that they didn’t want to be as active. I’m sure even if they try to do the same number of activities under C-JeS they will have similar problems. They are relieved just because they don’t work as much. If we compare the sale numbers, number of followers for fansites, number of votes in any place, view numbers from the videos, Yunho and Changmin as duo are more popular than JYJ; and that’s clear difference. So I think Yunho and Changmin are getting the results of actively working, I am sure they are making money too… But it seems to me that JYJ is much richer than Homin at the moment and it is just not fair. I don’t know which one is more valuable though; the money, or the popularity…
Don’t mind me I’m blabbering again…

From what little I know, it seems to me that JYJ’s leaving SM was all about jumping off that cliff of freedom. Creative freedom. Freedom to choose… Personal time, Family time, Personal growth, and even the Freedom to fail. I believe that they felt creatively stifled… and probably financially bullied. In their song “W”, it sounds like they wanted Yunho and Changmin to join them, but HoMin chose not to jump. I’m sure there’s more to it, however, I believe all five DB5K members acted each in their own manner to maintain their personal integrity, honor their families, and express themselves artistically. So, regarding the issue of Homin maybe be making less money, it’s not unfair… it’s just the consequences of the choice they made to stay with the devil they knew instead of the devil they couldn’t see. In regard to the issue of popularity… that can only be measured fairly if they were on a level playing field and everyone knows that’s not true. The fact that Homin is doing okay, has to be a comfort to JYJ, as they never wanted their dear friends to be hurt. In any case, Homin chose not to take the same risk of failure that Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu did… individually and collectively. It just so happens, that JYJ succeeded beyond anyone’s imagination… individually and collectively.
